There was a flurry of art appreciation and creation at the Locust Lane Chapel on Thursday evening, 17 September. Three groups of SNAP friends rotated between tables to learn a little bit about Mary Cassatt, Pablo Picasso, and Emily Carr. After learning about the artists, we had a chance to create pieces of art inspired by their work.
Sister Woodard explains how the activity will unfold
Sister Chambers explains a little bit about Pablo Picasso
Sister Woodard tells about Mary Cassatt
Cassatt painted mothers and children
Sister Leishman taught us about Emily Carr, a Canadian artist, who used totems as subject matter
We used torn paper and glue to create
Figures for our own totem pole were created with paper
Making something colorful and fun
Nothing to it
We were able to draw pieces inspired by Cassatt's ideas
Making a bird-like figure for our totem pole
It's always a good time at SNAP
I'll be your eyes
Nice work
Our work went up on the art board
We rotated tables and Sister Chambers explained Picasso to a new group
Brother Chambers helped our visitor from Australia
More Mary Cassatt-inspired drawings
Happy artists color in totems
Happy artists pasting torn papers
Happy artists put down their pencils
This tactile stuff is good fun for someone with visual impairment
The art board was full
And the totem pole is complete
Thanks to Sister Woodard and everyone who made this such a fun activity. See you again soon at SNAP.
